Four instruments collect dietary data.

4-Day Food Record

The 4DFR was a self-administered 4-day journal of dietary data. The data was collected as free response and was converted into food counts, and these datasets do not contain the free response answers. Foods, supplements, nutrients, and food patterns equivalents data was compiled using the USDA Food and Nutrient Database for Dietary Studies (FNDDS) and the USDA Food Patterns Equivalents Database (FPED).

The 4DFR files are provided two ways: one set of files includes the 2 administration attempts. The extra files contain extra administrations data for the 9 people who completed 3 administrations. The first set of data files, those not containing the extra administrations, are recommended for analysis.
