Title
Prostate Cancer and PSA: Examining the role of mediation in the associations of individual characteristics with prostate specific antigen (PSA) and prostate cancer risk
Summary
This study will use individual level person data (IPD) from several large studies to estimate the direct effect of several variables (age, body mass index, ethnicity, androgen levels, benign prostatic hypertrophy) on PSA, accounting for the effects of each variable on prostate cancer risk. Multi-parameter evidence synthesis will be used in combination with causal models to calculate the direct effect of the variables.

(Note: This current study forms part of Sean Harrison’s PhD; although the intention is to write this as a journal article, the output will be first and foremost part of a thesis)
Aims

The primary aim of this study is to separate several variables’ direct effect on PSA from their overall effect on PSA in order to improve PSA as a test for prostate cancer.
