Title
Association between Genetic Variation and Gall Bladder Stones and Inflammation
Summary
The strongest risk factors for gallstone disease include age, sex, obesity and female reproductive factors. However, family history studies and ethnic variation in incidence both suggest a significant role of genetics. Using existing PLCO data, our research proposal aims to characterize common genetic variants that influence history of gall bladder stones or inflammation. Statistical analyses will employ linear and logistic regression models adjusted for age, sex and other risk factors as appropriate. Identification of novel genetic pathways for this nonmalignant disorder may provide new insights regarding pathogenesis and help elucidate its association with gall bladder cancer.
Aims
To assess the association between genetic variants and self-reported gall bladder stones or inflammation.
