Title
Lung Cancer Risk by Time Since Quit Smoking
Summary
Guidelines for low-dose CT (LDCT) screening require former smokers to have quit within 15 years. This is based in part on the level of lung cancer risk associated with different time since quit intervals. The goal of this project is to analyze lung cancer risk by time since quit intervals among subjects meeting the NLST criteria of at least 30 pack years of smoking.
Aims
1. To analyze cumulative lung cancer incidence within various short periods from baseline (3 and 5 years) by smoking history category, and specifically by years since quit smoking, among subjects with 30+ pack years. Never smokers are also included as a referent group.
2. To assess lung cancer characteristics (histology, survival) by years since quit category, as well as in current and never sm0kers.
