Title
Cause of death in the NLST and PLCO: comparison of death certificates and endpoint adjudication

Summary
We will explore measures of agreement (percent agreement, kappa, sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV) in cause of death between death certificates and endpoint adjudication in PLCO. We will also be doing this with NLST data (see NLST CDAS request).

Aims

1. Look at agreement with regard to cause of death between death certificate cause of death and death review cause of death. Explore by study arm in addition to independent of study arm.
Look at this for all P,L,C and O deaths separately and together.
2. Compare final interim analyses using DC P,L,C,O cause of death and P,L,C,O death review cause of death as outcomes.
3. Look at patterns of change among those participants whose cause of death changed from P,L,C,O cancer to something else after death review. Look at patterns of change among those participants who did not have P,L,C,O cancer listed as cause of death on their death certificate but were assigned P,L,C,O cancer after death review
