Title
Flexible sigmoidoscopy screening in colorectal cancer: A pooled analysis of randomized controlled trials
Summary
Flexible sigmoidoscopy (FSG) screening may have different effects in men and women and in different age groups, but data from the published studies are too small to obtain definitive answers. None of the flexible sigmoidoscopy screening trials are powered to perform subgroup analyses. Pooling of the data from the sigmoidoscopy trials may provide insight and power to perform subgroup analyses. FSG trial groups will be invited to participate in this “pooling project” and asked to provide data on individual trial participant outcomes. The primary endpoints of interest are incidence and mortality of CRC, overall and in the different subgroups by age (5 years grouping), sex, and in the distal and proximal colon.
Aims
1. To examine CRC incidence and mortality rates in gender and age subgroups via pooling of participants across randomized trials of screening FSG.
Prior to pursuit of a pooling project, an initial review of aggregated outcomes is proposed.
