Screening for Head and Neck Cancers within a high risk population
Irrespective of the route of diagnosis, ~60% of HNC is diagnosed in stages III and IV
Aim:
To design a study that will screen for head and neck cancer within the population in England
Overarching Design:
A multi-stage implementation study where the earlier workpackages set the infrastructure and
the later workpackages deliver implementation and independent evaluation of a new approach
to identify early stage head and neck cancer (HNC) in high-risk, socio-economically deprived populations.
While the larger project aims to set in place a study to implement screening for HNC in a high risk population within England, the objective of this application to NCI is to identify the number and stage of HNCs identified in the PLCO cohort. We hope to identify data that may or may not, support our planned approach.
