Title
Non-invasive Characterization of Peripheral Pulmonary Nodules of the Lung Adenocarcinoma Spectrum and Correlation with Clinical Outcomes using CANARY (Computer-Aided Nodule Assessment and Risk Yield)
Summary
Research Plan: Given the high rate of false positive LD-CT screening test non-invasive tools to distinguish increasing numbers of screening detected pulmonary nodules of the adenocarcinoma spectrum from false positive pulmonary nodules (benign nodules) are urgently needed. (Aim#1) In addition, the implementation of individualized management of screening detected adenocarcinomas requires the development of imaging based risk stratification strategies to identify clinically indolent and aggressive lesions prior to their surgical resection. (Aim#2) Our preliminary data indicate that computer-aided image analysis using CANARY can predict histological tissue invasion as a surrogate maker for patient outcomes.
