Title
External validation of a chest radiograph-based quantification model for the cardiovascular system

Summary
Chest radiographs contain diagnostic information for various thoracic organs including lungs, heart, great vessels and bones. Such information can be extracted quantitatively using an end-to-end deep learning algorithm. Considering that the chest radiograph is one of the most commonly performed diagnostic tests in the world and that it is an easily accessible and low-cost tool, the potential value of chest radiograph-based quantification gains substantial clinical importance. In this study, we aim to evaluate the prognostic value of the chest radiograph-based, cardiovascular quantification using the PLCO dataset. Our model measures and detects abnormal enlargement of the cardiovascular organs, and we assume that such abnormalities are associated with the cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality in participants of the PLCO trial.

Aims

We aim to evaluate the prognostic value of the chest radiograph-based, cardiovascular quantification using the PLCO dataset. Our model measures and detects abnormal enlargement of the cardiovascular organs, and we assume that such abnormalities are associated with the cardiovascular mortality and all-cause mortality in participants of the PLCO trial.
