Title
Outcomes of stage I non-small cell lung cancer patients treated with surgery versus radiation therapy within the NLST
Summary
Surgical resection is the currently accepted standard curative treatment for stage I non-small cell lung cancer. However more recently, definitive radiation therapy (particularly through stereotactic body radiation therapy) is being advocated as an acceptable alternative in selected subsets of patients. This remains to be proved through prospective studies.
Aims

1. To determine the differences in all-cause of mortality as well as cancer-specific mortality between patients with stage I disease treated with surgery versus radiation therapy.
2. To determine the risk of second primary malignancy development following initial radical treatment of stage I lung cancer.
