Government Funding Lapse

Because of a lapse in government funding, the information on this website may not be up to date, transactions submitted via the website may not be processed, and the agency may not be able to respond to inquiries until appropriations are enacted. The NIH Clinical Center (the research hospital of NIH) is open. For more details about its operating status, please visit  cc.nih.gov. Updates regarding government operating status and resumption of normal operations can be found at OPM.gov.

Each NLST project may now receive CT images from up to 15,000 participants (of the investigator’s choice).

Investigators are encouraged to consider taking fewer than 15,000, because:

  1. Many applications do not need that many.
  2. The maximum total data size for 15,000 people is very high (8 terabytes).
  3. The number of available screen-detected lung cancer cases (~600) and benign nodule cases (~9000) is limited.
