Title
CT screening for small cell lung cancer
Summary
In NLST, adenocarcinomas and squamous-cell carcinomas were in general detected at either stage I or stage II. The stage distribution was more favorable in the low-dose CT group than in the radiography group. Small-cell lung cancers (SCLC) were, generally not detected at early stages by either low-dose CT or radiography. Less than half of the patients with SCLC in both groups had limited-stage disease. Similar findings were noted in the PLCO study.
It is not known whether earlier detection resulted in a better survival in the small, but not insignificant number of individuals with SCLC.
Aims

1. Classify SCLC by stage and mode of detection (interval vs. screen detected)
2. Assess the outcomes of patients based on stage at detection
3. Compare outcomes with population data from SEER for comparable time-periods
