Title
Size-Driven Simulation Model for Lung Cancer Screening
Summary
I am the sole-author of a novel mathematical methodology which allows for the estimation of a size-dependent natural history model of lung cancer from cancer registry data, such as the U.S. SEER database. We estimate the distribution of tumor sizes at which otherwise lethal lung cancers may be curable by early detection (i.e. cure threshold distribution). We have validated these results against data from the Mayo CT screening study (single-arm, 66 total lung cancers) and SEER and plan to compare the model’s predictions against data from the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST).
Aims

The specific aim of this project is to compare data from the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) with model predictions. Such a comparison will lead to insights with regard to optimizing a CT screening regimen for the early detection of lung cancer.
