Title
Socioeconomic status, exposures, and health outcomes in the NLST.

Summary
The proposed study plans to evaluate the relationship between SES, estimated by education level, and intermediate determinants such as occupations, tobacco consumption, comorbidities, and terminal outcomes including risk of cancers and mortality. Regarding the later, overall and cause-specific mortality will be assessed. Linear, logistic and Cox regression will be used to describe univariate and multivariable relationships. Currently, a parallel study using PLCO data is underway. We plan to attempt to validate important associations identified in the PLCO SES study using NLST data.
