TCIA - Evaluation of a Prototype User Interface for Querying NLST Data and Metadata, Including Images of the CT Image Library.

The Electronic Radiology Laboratory (ERL) of the Washington University Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology is tasked by NCI to create a metadata repository to manage the study and outcomes data from the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) and to link this repository to the CT Image Library, collected under the Lung Screening Study component of the NLST and now a part of The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) managed by ERL. ERL is developing a query tool and associated information resources to be used by the research community to facilitate new investigations using these NLST information resources. This query tool is currently in prototype form. To ensure that the query tool is both sufficiently powerful and user friendly, ERL seeks to form a focus group of NLST knowledgeable researchers who will be asked to develop research questions and use-cases and then use the query tool prototype to implement the defined use-cases. ERL computer scientists will work with this focus group and record their experiences to guide the development of the second generation query tool and perhaps additional information resources (e.g. wiki content). The researchers who will comprise this focus group are all members of the NLST team (see list provided). They will come in contact with real Phase 1B and Phase 2 NLST data and thus will be required to sign appropriate data use agreements to participate in this query tool development and evaluation project.
