Title
Cancer risk after radiation exposure from low dose lung cancer screening
Summary
Lung cancer screening using a low dose chest CT scans has proven to be effective in early detection of lung cancer and reduced mortality. However, a lingering concern is the radiation-related cancer risk associated with these low dose chest CT scans. The broader implications regarding cancer incidence due to radiation exposure remain inadequately explored.
Aims
This study aims to assess the non-lung cancer risk in lung cancer screening participants following exposure to low dose chest CT scans. The primary outcome is the incidence rates of cancers, excluding lung cancer, in individuals who have been exposed to a CT scan more than one year prior to any cancer diagnosis. This will be compared to the non-lung cancer incidence rates in a control group comprising individuals who underwent a chest X-ray screening.
