Title
Visual assessment of emphysema on low dose chest CT and risk of lung cancer

Summary
Smoking is one of the major risk factors for lung cancer and is associated with the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including emphysema. Following NLST and NELSON trials, lung cancer screening projects for high-risk patients including former and current smokers are underway in many countries. Lung-RADS, a standardized reporting format, is recommended and used for lung cancer screening. However, it applies the same assessment criteria to all patients without considering the smoking burden. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the lung cancer risk of nodules found in lungs with varying degrees of emphysema on low-dose CT.

Aims

Aim 1: Evaluate lung cancer risk according to CT emphysema classification.
Aim 2: Investigate lung cancer prevalence according to CT emphysema classification.
