Title
Collaborative Group on Epidemiological Studies of Female Cancers
Summary
The Collaborative Group on Hormonal Factors in Breast Cancer was formed in 1992. At the time, reviews of epidemiological studies of breast cancer had emphasized the difficulty of combining published data on important public health questions - such as on the risk of breast cancer associated with the use of oral contraceptives - partly because different studies tended to present their results in different ways. The aim of the collaboration was, and still is, to bring together simple data from all epidemiological studies of breast cancer, to present results from each study in a similar way, to discuss results at regular meetings of collaborators, and to publish the findings, in the names of all collaborators. Following on from the success of the Collaborative Group on Hormonal Factors in Breast Cancer, similar collaborations on ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer were subsequently established. The collaborative group has pooled data from studies across the globe and is now analyzing them to address the association between these three female cancers and exposures including: hormonal contraceptives, hormone therapy, body size, alcohol, tobacco, and reproductive factors.
Aims

The collaboration aims to address the association between the following exposures and breast, endometrial and ovarian cancer: Breast: 1. Hormonal contraceptives and hormone therapy; 2. Body size; 3. Tobacco; 4.Risk factors by tumor characteristics Ovary: 1. Hormone Therapy; 2.Reproductive Factors; 3. Alcohol and Tobacco; 4. Risk factors by tumor histology Endometrial: 1. Hormone Therapy; 2. Body Size; 3. Reproductive Factors
