Title
PLCO Participant Survey
Summary
The Prostate, Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer Screening Trial is a large, multi-center, randomized controlled clinical trial designed to evaluate the mortality benefit of screening for these four cancers in subjects aged 55-74 at enrollment. The primary purpose of the proposed "PLCO Participant Survey" is to evaluate the retention materials we send to our clinical study participants. The survey is also designed to gather information on the clinical study participants' internet/email use. The ultimate goal of this effort is to improve participation rates in the ongoing PLCO Trial. The survey is anonymous and brief. The survey is designed to be easy to complete; with eleven questions, eight of which are multiple-choice with checkbox responses. Two questions are regarding demographics – age and gender. The last question (11) is an optional comment box. A two-page print version of the survey (one sheet with printing on both sides) will be mailed to all our active participants along with a business reply return envelope. Our testing indicates that the survey will take five to ten minutes to complete.
Aims
(1) To determine the perceived value of the retention materials distributed by the Screening Centers of the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer Screening Trial by the study participants (2) To determine if study subjects' participation was influenced by the retention materials and (3) to obtain information on what resources PLCO participants utilize (i.e.: e-mail, internet).
