Title
Associations between male pattern baldness and several cancer risk and CVD risk and mortality
Summary
Male pattern baldness (MPB) could be a reflection of endogenous hormones in men. Previous studies reported MPB at age 45 years was associated with an increased risk of aggressive prostate cancer. In this study, we will further investigate the associations between MPB and other cancer (e.g. colorectal, gastric, melanoma) risk and mortality by adjusting multiple cancer risk factors. We will also examine the relationship between MPB and CVD-related risk and death. This study will elucidate the important role of endogenous hormones reflected by MPB in selected cancers and other chronic diseases.
Aims
1. to describe the distribution of hair pattern (baldness) by different race and age groups in the PLCO cohort
2. to identify the associations between Male Pattern Baldness and several cancer (e.g. colorectal, gastric, melanoma) risk and CVD risk and mortality
3. to identify the associations between Male Pattern Baldness by selected tumor stage, location and grade
