Title
Dataset corresponding to the Schoen et al. (2003 JAMA) publication for testing a simulation model of population screening using flexible sigmoidoscopy
Summary
We want to develop estimates of parameters from the PLCO trial for publication in peer-reviewed literature and to validate the CISNET Colon models. For a more detailed validation of MISCAN-Colon using the data for the publication by Schoen et al. 2003 of the PLCO trial, additional estimates are required. These estimates can also be used to validate the other two CISNET Colon models. To isolate factors associated with possible differences between simulated and observed outcomes, estimates of the incidence of findings at subsequent sigmoidoscopy in the PLCO cohort by specific subgroups can be compared between modeled and observed outcomes, e.g., factors such as age groups, gender, type of baseline exam (i.e., inadequate or without abnormalities).
Aims

The specific aims of this proposal are 1) to obtain a dataset to be used to develop robust, smoothed estimates of the finding rates for cancers, advanced adenomas, non-advanced adenomas, and hyperplastic polyps at T0 and T3 specific to age-group, sex, location, stage (for cancer), and prior screening result; and 2) to compare these estimates to the model predictions to determine the degree of accuracy of the model parameterization. These parameters of interest are more detailed than the estimates previously reported (Schoen et al., 2003; Weissfeld et al., 2005); however, they do not require any information on endpoint results.
