Title
Out of pocket costs associated with Lung Cancer Screening
Summary
The National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) demonstrated a 20% relative risk reduction in lung cancer mortality among patients that were screened with low dose computed tomography (LDCT). Screening for lung cancer with LDCT is now widely accepted in a targeted population to help reduce the burden of lung cancer with the US. Currently only 5 to 10% of the eligible population are currently being screened for lung cancer. Our prior qualitative studies among individuals that are undergoing lung cancer screening at UNC have demonstrated that increased information about the down stream out of pocket expenses is essential in improving the shared decision making process.
Aims

Individual healthcare utilization among participants of the NLST will be used to develop estimates of the out of pockets expenses using the updated 2018 Medicare reimbursement rates and insurance coverage policies.
