Title
Long Term Outcomes in Active Smokers Undergoing Lung Resection: An Analysis of the National Lung Cancer Screening Trial

Summary
Current smokers are eligible for lung cancer screening based on national guidelines. Studies suggest the prevalence of current smokers in the National Lung Cancer Screening Trial (NLST)was as high as 48%. While some studies have compared short-term outcomes between current and ex-smokers, no studies exist looking at long-term outcomes of active smokers undergoing surgery as part of the treatment for their lung cancer. The aim of this project is to look at patients enrolled in the NLST who were designated as active smokers. The primary outcomes will be overall survival, disease free survival, and recurrence free survival.

Aims

The aim of this project is to look at patients enrolled in the NLST who were designated as active smokers. The primary outcomes we will be analyzing include overall survival, disease free survival, and recurrence free survival. Secondary outcomes will include recurrence patterns in lobar versus sublobar resections and adjuvant treatment.
