Title
Common Genetic Variation and the Risk of Multiple Myeloma
Summary
Genetic factors are thought to contribute to the risk of multiple myeloma, but published studies examining genetic variation and myeloma risk are scarce and usually underpowered to detect a modest increase in risk. The goal of this study is to examine the association between genetic variants in select genes and the risk of multiple myeloma in a large case-control study using cases from the Bank On A Cure study and breast and prostate cancer controls from the Cancer Genetic Markers of Susceptibility (CGEMS) study.
Aims
The specific aim of this study is to examine the association between genetic variants and the risk of multiple myeloma in a case-control study utilizing the Caucasian cases from the Bank On A Cure study and the Caucasian controls previously genotyped in the CGEMS breast and prostate cancer studies. As a secondary aim, we will also explore a few select gene-environmental interactions.
