Title
Meat and meat mutagens and risk of breast cancer in the PLCO Cancer Screening Trial
Summary
Prospectively examine associations between meat type, meat mutagens (i.e. heterocyclic amines) and iron intake and breast cancer using the PLCO dietary history questionnaire (DHQ) detailed meat-cooking module. We hypothesize that red meat, meat-mutagens and heme iron intake will be positively associated with breast cancer risk.
Aims
1. To prospectively examine the relationship between meat type, meat cooking methods, and meat-mutagens (i.e. heterocyclic amines) and the risk for breast cancer. 2. To examine the association between breast cancer incidence and iron intake (heme iron and total iron). We hypothesize that red meat, meat-mutagens (i.e. heterocyclic amines) and heme iron intake will be positively associated with breast cancer risk.
