Title
Improvement of Early Lung Cancer Detection Rate for Patients Undergoing 18F-FDG PET/CT scans
Summary
Patients receiving 18F-FDG PET/CT scans for staging while they are diagnosed with various cancers. It's not uncommon for pulmonary lesions discovered among these patients. However, some nodules may not have FDG uptake and it's hard to tell whether these nodules are either benign or malignant, or primary lung cancer or lung metastases from the primary sites. As early stage lung cancer is a curable disease, it is important to find early stage lung cancer among these lesions. In this study, we try to utilize the NLST dataset to help us identify primary early stage lung cancer from pulmonary lesions of other etiology.
Aims

Developing computer algorithm to differentiate early stage lung cancer from other benign or metastatic pulmonary lesions.
