Title
INCIDENCE OF LUNG CANCER IN POPULATIONS ABOVE THE AGE OF 65
Summary
PATIENTS OLDER THAN 65 ARE STILL ACTIVE MEMBERS OF SOCIETY AND CONTRIBUTE SIGNIFICANTLY. CURRENTLY MEDICARE DOES NOT COVER LDCT LUNG CANCER SCREENING IN PATIENTS ABOVE THE AGE OF 65, EVEN IN THE HIGH RISK PATIENT POPULATION, CITING LACK OF EVIDENCE OF BENEFIT OF TREATMENT AMONG THIS PATIENT AGE GROUP.

THIS STUDY WILL EXAMINE THE INCIDENCE OF LUNG CANCER AMONG THIS AGE GROUP AND FOCUS ON STAGE OF CANCER AT DETECTION AND LONG/SHORT TERM SURVIVAL RATES.

IF SIGNIFICANT BENEFIT IS SHOWN, THEN A CASE CAN BE MADE IN FAVOR OF IMPLEMENTING LDCT LUNG CANCER SCREENING AMONG MEDICARE PATIENTS.
Aims

1) IDENTIFY INCIDENCE OF CANCER IN PATIENTS OLDER THAN 65, BOTH SMOKERS AND NON SMOKERS.

2) EXAMINE THE STAGE OF LUNG CANCER AT TIME OF DETECTION IN THIS PARTICULAR AGE GROUP.

3) EXAMINE LONG/SHORT TERM SURVIVAL RATES IN PATIENTS WITH LUNG CANCER ABOVE THE AGE OF 65.

4) COMPARE THE DATA OBTAINED WITH THE GENERAL POPULATION USING APPROPRIATE STATISTICAL METHODS.
