Title
Prognostic implication of thoracic muscle and visceral fat in chest CT image in lung cancer screening participants
Summary
Sarcopenia is a progressive and generalized age-related decline of muscle mass and function, and independent condition with an International Classification of Diseases-10 code in 2016. Sarcopenia is a crucial predictive biomarker of clinical outcomes, including postoperative complications and survival in various diseases, particularly combined with obesity. Sarcopenic obesity is typically assessed using abdominal cross-sectional CT or MR images at the level of L3 vertebra, and has not been systematically assessed on chest CT images as the chest CT images do not cover the L3 level. We recently developed a deep learning algorithm for the volumetric segmentation of whole-body composition with the segmentation accuracy of 98%. We also found that the amount of thoracic muscle and visceral fat well was correlated with that of whole-body muscle and visceral fat.
Aims

We aimed to evaluate the prognostic implication of CT volumes of thoracic muscle and visceral fat in lung cancer screening participants at risk for lung cancer and cardiovascular disease.
