Life years gained by screening in the NLST
We will build a mortality model in the X-ray arm of the NLST and use it to predict, for each individual in the CT arm, their expected life without CT screening (truncated at Jan 15, 2009). We will then subtract this from their observed life (truncated at Jan 15, 2009) to get the distribution for the model-enhanced life years gained from screening in the CT arm. Because life years gained is on the order of weeks, we would need at least the month and year of randomization to obtain a fairly accurate estimate of the distribution.
