Title
Evaluation of risk factors for prostate cancer
Summary
Prostate cancer is one of the malignant cancer with the second incidence in men (second to skin cancer). Here we propose to use comprehensive PLCO data, including baseline data, dietary data, contamination data, lab results (vitamin D) and PSA data, to further dig out what environmental factors are associated with prostate cancer risk. Simultaneously, we are applying for genetic variants dataset deposited in the database of Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGaP). According to these, we further investigate the effect of genetic variants and environmental factors, even with their interaction, on prostate cancer development and progression. This study could help to reveal the etiology of prostate cancer and to guide the early detection and intervention in prostate cancer.
Aims

1. Investigate the association between environmental factors and prostate cancer risk.
2. Examine the influence of the interaction of genetic variants and environmental factors on prostate cancer risk.
3. Utilize more laboratory-based studies to investigate the molecular mechanism of environmental exposures and genetics (even their interaction) on prostate cancer development and progression.
